Most Town Clerk business can be conducted via mail, email and phone.  Town of Sheldon residents, please feel free to call or text the Town Clerk at 716-598-0378. (please do not call regarding court or traffic matters)

Dog licenses may be dropped in the mail slot on the Town Hall front door 24/7.


Form of Payment

The Town Clerk accepts cash, personal checks, money orders and credit cards. Transaction fees for credit cards: $1.75 for transactions of less than $64.00 and 2.75% per transaction over $64.00.  Dog licenses may be paid with a credit card, however, there is a fee.  A $20 fee will be assessed for returned checks.

Dog Licenses

You can now renew your DOG LICENSE online.  You can use owner's name, dog license number or dog's name.  There will be a convenience fee of $1.75 per transaction, not per dog license, added to the license fee amount. Transactions over $64.00 incur a transaction fee of 2.75%.  If the rabies has expired or will expire within the month you will not be able to license your dog online.  Fax rabies vaccination certificates to 585-535-0216 or email to sheldontownclerk@rochester.rr.com.  You are able to renew your dog licenses at any time, whether the renewal is up or not.  

CLICK HERE to renew your dog license online.  When searching by name - use last name only.  When searching by tag # - do not use the prefix 14.  

All dogs 4 months of age and older must be licensed.  

Fees are as follows:  spayed/neutered $9, unspayed/unneutered $18.   

An application for a dog license can be found at the bottom of this page under downloads.  An updated copy of rabies vaccination is required.  Checks should be made payable to Sheldon Town Clerk.  Dog licenses can be mailed to the Town Clerk's attention.  Mail to:  Sheldon Town Clerk, 1380 Centerline Rd., Strykersville, NY 14145.  Please include a stamped-self addressed envelope.  To reach the County Animal Control Officer, please call Justa Goodell at 585-786-8938. 

Rabies Vaccination Clinics

FREE Rabies Vaccination Clinics offered by the Wyoming County Health Department:

Wyoming County Health Department  Dog, Cat and Ferret Anti-Rabies Vaccination Clinics 2023

Dates will be posted in February 2023

    

Dogs, cats and ferrets three months of age or over will be inoculated at these clinics. The initial vaccination is good for one year only. For dogs and cats each vaccination thereafter will be valid for three years. (ferrets must be vaccinated yearly.)  Animals must be accompanied by someone able to control them. This is a free clinic to Wyoming County residents however donations are encouraged to off-set clinic costs.  *A mandatory $10.00 fee per animal will be collected for out-of-county residents*     Mask use and Social Distancing is encouraged.     If you have any questions, please call The Wyoming County Health Department at 585-786-8894.  



Notary Services

Notary services available at no cost - call or text Carol at 716-598-0378 to make an appointment.  Please bring photo ID.  Do not sign the document until you are in the notary's presence. 

Marriage Licenses

By appointment only - call or text 716-598-0378.  Marriage licenses require the presence of the bride and groom.  Original birth certificates (with seal) as well as a drivers license or passport are required for identification purposes.  Divorce applicants must bring dated divorce papers.  The cost is $40, made payable to the Sheldon Town Clerk.  A marriage ceremony cannot occur until 24 hours after license issuance and the license is valid for up to 60 days.   

Parking Permits for People with Disabilities

The Town Clerk issues the permit after your physician has filled out the required paperwork.  Please click on this link for the application.  Valid photo ID is required.  There is no fee for the permit.  

Freedom of Information Law Requests

 To request copies of Town records, please complete the FOIL request form and submit to the Town Clerk.  Copies will only be made after payment has been received.

Certified Copies of Birth, Death, Marriage Records

Marriage Certificates:  Certified copies of marriage licenses may be issued to the spouses listed on the license.  
If requesting by mail:  Please complete the marriage request form at the bottom of this page and submit with a notarized letter requesting the document, a copy of a government issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, military ID). 
If requesting in person: (appointment only - call 716-598-0378)  please bring a government issued photo ID and a completed marriage request form which can be found under downloads at the bottom of this page.
Fee:  $10.00 payable to the Sheldon Town Clerk
Death Certificates:  Certified copies of death certificates can only be issued to a spouse, children, siblings or parents of the deceased or other lawful representative with medical or legal documentation.
If requesting by mail:  Please complete the request form at the bottom of this page and submit with a notarized letter requesting the document, a copy of a government issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, military ID).
If requesting in person: (appointment only - call 716-598-0378)  please bring a government issued photo ID and a completed death certificate request form which can be found under downloads at the bottom of this page..

Birth Certificates:  A certified copy of a certificate of live birth may only be issued to the following:  the individual named on the certificate, a parent named on the certificate, a legal guardian or by court order.
If requesting by mail:  Please complete the request form at the bottom of this page under downloads and submit with a notarized letter requesting the document, a copy of a government issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, military ID)
If requesting in person (appointment only - call  716-598-0378):  a government issued photo ID and a completed birth certificate request form which can be found at the bottom of the page under downloads.
Fee:  $10.00 payable to the Sheldon Town Clerk


Genealogy Requests:

  • Birth certificates - if on file for at least 75 years and the person whose name is on the birth certificate is known to be deceased.
  • Death certificates - if on file for at least 50 years.
  • Marriage certificates - if on file for at least 50 years and both spouses are known to be deceased.

The time periods are waived for direct-line descendants. A direct line descendant is a person in the direct line of descent, i.e., the child, grandchild, great grandchild of the person whose record is requested. The direct-line descendant applicant must provide the following:

  • Proof of their relationship to the person whose record they are requesting.
  • Proof of the death of the person whose birth certificate they are requesting.
  • Proof of the death of both spouses whose marriage certificate they are requesting
